In between St. Patrick's Day and Maine Maple Sunday is a celebration in Orrington that offers the best of both worlds, and a lot more.

Where Is the Event Happening?

It will be a family friendly celebration of late winter at the 19th Century Curran Homestead in Orrington. Located on Fields Pond Road, the cluster of buildings houses an amazing amount of history, including a blacksmith shop, and an antique carousel. There will be something for everyone at the Maple Syrup & Irish Celebration on Saturday, March 18th, from 10 am to 3 pm.

Will There Be Food?

We'll talk about the activities shortly, but I wanted to fill you (pun intended) in on my favorite part of the day - the food. Folks who stop by will be able to munch on corn chowder with bacon, Irish soda bread, lamb stew, beef stew, and chili. And for dessert? Pies. Lots of pies, including a Maple Apple Pie that sounds so good, my mouth is already watering. Of course, they'll also be sugaring off some maple syrup, so I'm sure there will be some maple treats, as well.

What Else is Going On There?

The activities planned for the day will have you stepping back in time, with things like rides in a genuine Model T car and on an 1894 horse carousel that was recently moved to Orrington from Newry, Maine. Draft horses will be pulling either a sled or a wagon, depending on the weather. The kids can take part in an egg hunt, complete with prizes. (Oh yeah...Easter is included in this celebration, too) And there will be demonstrations of blacksmithing, a cord saw, and more. And, as if this isn't enough, you can enjoy some live Bluegrass music from Freshly Cut Grass.

Admission is $12 for adults, $6 for kids 12 and under, and free for newborns and toddlers.
