Maine Forest Rangers Manage Tricky Helicopter Rescue Amidst Rapids This Week
It's a situation no one ever wants to end up in...but if you do end up in the situation, it's a really good thing we have trained Forest Rangers in the State of Maine, who know how to get people out of tricky spots in a host of different ways.
In this case, Maine Forest Rangers used a helicopter. You want to talk about some dramatic photos? This rescue was unreal!

It was Wednesday afternoon when two paddlers, who had been attempting to make their way through the Allagash, got themselves stuck in the middle of a raging river. Stuck on a very small rock in the center of swirling water, the pair held on for dear life as the Rangers sprang into action!
"Ranger flight crews assisted Allagash Wilderness Waterway Rangers and the Maine Warden Service with the rescue of two paddlers earlier this afternoon."
"The pair had become stranded in the rapids above Allagash Falls and were extracted via short-haul."
I can't even imagine how harrowing that situation was to begin with, let alone what kind of emotions the pair must have been going through during the ordeal.
But I'd wager a guess that gratitude is what the couple landed on, after all was said and done.

It's sometimes easy to take for granted that even in hot and humid conditions, conditions most of us complain about in the best of situations, there are men and women willing to don heavy rescue gear and make their way through physically taxing terrain to help us in our times of need.
We're glad there was a happy ending to this story.
And we send out a big thank you to all of our EMS and First Responders, and to Maine's Forest Rangers for the level heads and incredible skills.
