Paris Man Arrested After Hitting Off-Duty Reserve Officer With Car
Authorities are looking into the details surrounding how an off-duty reserve officer with the Oxford PD was run into by a car while standing outside his vehicle.
According to Shannon Moss, with the Maine Department of Public Safety, State Police were called in to respond to the incident that happened on Crocket Ridge Road in Norway at around 6 PM Tuesday.
"The initial investigation indicates an Oxford Police Department Reserve Officer, 31-year-old Joe Correia of Norway was off duty and outside his vehicle when he was struck by a vehicle...After being struck, a physical altercation occurred between the officer and the male suspect who was operating the other vehicle being driven by 29-year-old Michael Carleton of Paris. Carleton was eventually taken into custody and transported to the Oxford County Jail. "
Moss says Carleton was charged with Aggravated Assault and Reckless Conduct With A Dangerous Weapon. Officer Correia was taken to a nearby hospital where he underwent surgery. We're told his injuries were believed to be non-life-threatening.
The State Police are continuing to investigate the matter.
