Big-Rig Rollover Slows Traffic Along Interstate Thursday Morning
While it appeared that only a little snow fell in the overnight hours from Wednesday to Thursday, conditions changed considerably in the early morning commute hours. What was just a dusting in most spots at 5:30 or 6 AM, increased considerably, with snow coming down heavy by 7 AM.
Driving became tricky due to the heavy snowfall and wind gusts.
The speed limit along the Interstate was lowered to 45, as local authorities started to receive reports of vehicles going off the road.
Along the interstate, near the Union Street exit, a large truck carrying french fries ended up on its side along the road and caused the shutdown of multiple exit ramps, including Exit 185, 186, and 187. As a result, traffic to back up a ways.
According to the Maine State Police,
"Initial investigation indicates the driver, 34-year-old Edward Ross of Lawrenceville, GA was traveling southbound on the Interstate when he lost control of his vehicle causing the tractor-trailer to roll over. Ross was not injured."
It took crews most of the day to clean up the crash site. Maine State Police are still investigating the crash, but believe that speed and road conditions may have been contributing factors.
