Maine State Trooper Injured In Accident On Interstate
A member of the Maine State Police Department was injured earlier in the week on a roadway in Southern Maine.
We're told the incident happened Wednesday, at around 11:00 AM.
According to Maine Department of Safety spokesperson, Shannon Moss, the Trooper was traveling along the highway when another driver lost control of their vehicle and crashed into his cruiser.
"Cpl. Garret Booth was traveling northbound on I-95 in Sidney when a 2019 Kia Optima operated by 34-year-old Keishaunna Tavares of San Diego, California, fell asleep, causing her foot to press on the accelerator and her vehicle to speed up uncontrollably rear-ending Cpl. Booth’s cruiser at a high rate of speed. Cpl. Booth sustained an arm injury and was taken to Maine General Medical Center in Augusta for evaluation."
Tavares, who was uninjured, was cited for "failing to maintain control of her motor vehicle."
Booth was eventually released from the hospital.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene, having been damaged by the impact of the vehicles colliding.
State Police say the crash is still under investigation.
