Police: Intoxicated Man Hit by Car While Hailing Uber in Holden, Maine
A Bangor man, who had had a little too much to drink, and was wearing dark clothes, was hit by a vehicle as he walked along Route 1A in Holden Tuesday evening, authorities say.
49-year-old Daniel Hines was trying to meet his ride on the Copeland Hill Road when he was struck, according to the Holden Police Department.
"The vehicle was traveling eastbound, driven by Rebecca Saulnier (39-year-old from Dedham), when a pedestrian, Daniel Hines (49-year-old from Bangor), attempted to cross Route 1A to get to an Uber and was struck. Daniel was wearing dark clothes and was intoxicated. He was transported to the hospital with minor injuries."
Members of the Penobscot County Reconstruction Team helped investigate the situation.
According to the Maine Department of Transportation, in 2024 alone there were 80 motor vehicle crashes in Holden. Most of the crashes are said to take place between the hours of 6 AM and 9 PM. A majority of the causes of collisions had to do with cars being sideswiped or rear ended, deer in the roadway or movements at certain intersections.
