The Portland School Board has drafted a policy change for consideration and not everyone agrees with it.  Do you?

The policy draft would "require that students apply to college, a vocational program or the military in order to receive a high school diploma."

This past Tuesday the board held its first public hearing on the issue.  Just two people showed up to voice their opinion.

One parent of two school children in the Portland school system said, "We should not tell them (students) what to do with their diploma.  What they do should be their choice."

Another said, "It's a good idea, but telling someone they can't be a lobsterman is kind of wrong.  Or that they can't be a farmer."

Another public hearing will be held on June 10th at Casco Bay High School.
