Red Cross Is Looking For Mainers To Donate Not Just Blood In 2025…
It's likely you are already used to the folks from the American Red Cross, asking you to consider giving the gift of life by donating blood.
But in 2025, along with asking people for their blood, the Red Cross is also asking folks to consider giving the gift of what is likely the most valuable commodity we all have; time.

Regional CEO of the Northern New England Region Stephanie Couturier, says volunteers make up the majority of the workforce.
“Our volunteers make up 90% of our workforce and are the beating heart and soul of the Red Cross. Their support is immeasurable. Their precious gift of time builds our capacity to help people in what can be their darkest days."
Jennifer Costa, media contact for the American Red Cross Northern New England Division, says there are many different roles volunteers can help fill.
"Depending on your interests, the Red Cross offers a variety of volunteer opportunities — from supporting a family after a home fire, helping a military member during an emergency, or helping us ensure blood is available for patients in need."
Some of the things you could do as a volunteer with the American Red Cross include being part of the Disaster Action team, where you help families in your community after a fire or natural disaster.
There are also Hero Care Caseworkers, who support military veterans and their families.
Blood donor ambassadors and Blood Transportation specialists play an important role in engaging with donors and potential donors, helping them through the process of blood donation, and then transporting those life-saving donations to the appropriate facilities where they can be put to the best use.
Costa says that just last year, 600 Mainers volunteered in the region putting in over 40-thousand hours towards helping other Mainers in need.
