A bunch of years ago, while living in southern Maine, my wife and I took a ride up the mountain at Sunday River to scope the foliage. Honestly, I had a cold and didn't even remotely wanna go, despite knowing how beautiful it would be. But, I went. And boy oh boy, am I glad I did. And you can too, without having to go all the way downstate to do it.

The Ragged Mountain Ski and Snowboard Club and the Camden Snow Bowl are hosting their annual Pancakes and Chairlift Rides, on Sundays all through the month of October. From 8:30a.m. - 10:30a.m. you can grab a stack of flap jacks, and then head up the Camden Snow Bowl. The lifts will be making trips up from 9:00a.m. - 1:00p.m. and you can soak in the spectacular views.Kids are only $5, and adults can go up for $10. As a bonus, you can also sign up for early bird rates on season passes for the Snow Bowl.

But really, the foliage is the star of the show. And if you look out your window, you'll see that the leaves are really starting to do their thing. And when you're going up the mountain on the chairlift, the colors are always amazing. You will be super glad you did it, I promise. And think of the ridiculous selfie opportunities! Ha!

So eat some pancakes, ride the lift, enjoy the views, and convince yourself it's not motion sickness, you just ate too many delicious pancakes.
