Did you know Bangor used to be a launch site for missiles to protect the U.S. from Soviet bombers? You can still see many of the buildings today.

With very active Dow Air Force Base so close and the threat of attack always in the air Bangor wasn't taking any chances in the mid 1900's. According to Cold War Relics:

The BOMARC missile program was a joint venture between the United States and Canada from 1957 to 1972 to protect against the threat of Soviet bombers.

Today the site remains as BOMARC Industrial Park and is home to a few small businesses. You'll know you've reached the site when you pass the still standing guard house. Watch the video above for a full tour of the site as it looks today. For more information on the site click here.
