Members of the Maine State Police, along with Pittsfield Rescue, responded to the scene.

"Troopers arrived to find a 2012 Subaru Impreza that had gone into the median and become lodged in the trees. The driver, 56-year-old Rae Hartford of Scarborough, was pronounced deceased at the scene and had to be extricated from the vehicle. Preliminary investigation indicates speed and intoxication were likely contributing factors."

The Maine State Police say that traffic in that area of the interstate was down to one lane during the peak morning commute hours. It remained a one-lane road for about 2 hours before it could be opened again.

Blanchard's Towing helped to clean up the scene of the accident.

Investigators are looking into the circumstances surrounding the crash. They are asking anyone with information to come forward to speak with Maine State Police Trooper Klayton Peckham.

You can reach the Maine State Police by calling (207) 973-3700. Dial 9 for Trooper Peckham's direct extension.
