I think we have all heard that taking frequent breaks is good for your productivity, focus, and creativity, but most of us never seem to get around to it.

This is not new news for business owners that care. I was talking to someone the other day who had worked for L.L.Bean's call center here in town and she was extolling the excellent practice they had of making their workers take breaks and stretch regularly. She said is seem to increase her mental sharpness and keep interesting what could be a stressful job

And now a study from earlier this year from the University of Toronto adds to that thought revealing that the absence of a proper lunch break can actually lower productivity. They also found that the 10% of employees with the highest productivity didn’t put in longer hours than anyone else, they just took regular breaks. Specifically, they took 17-minute breaks for every 52 minutes of work.

The study as posted in the Academy of Management Journal stated: Work recovery research has focused mainly on how after-work break activities help employees replenish their resources and reduce fatigue. Given that employees spend a considerable amount of time at work, understanding how they can replenish their resources during the workday is critical.
