Grab the kids and get 'em into the great outdoors this weekend.

The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife informs us that this Saturday and Sunday, June 5th and 6th, is a free fishing weekend. That means that you don't need a fishing license to cast a line into one of the thousands of lakes, ponds, and rivers here in the great state of Maine.

Yes, anyone can fish this weekend regardless of age without a valid Maine fishing license, providing that it hadn't been revoked or suspended previously.  You also must adhere to current fishing laws as well.

Wildlife officials across the state came up with these free fishing weekends years ago as a  way to get parents to  take their kids fishing, creating interest within newer generations for the sport.

Free Fishing Weekends here in Maine happen twice a year, with the first one happening back in mid-February this year.

So far, the weather for this weekend looks beyond excellent, with the National Weather Service calling for mostly sunny days both Saturday and Sunday with high temperatures in the mid-80s. With very warm days expected this weekend, being right by the water seems like the place to be.

Some of a child's fondest memories can be that of standing on the banks of a lake while casting a line with his or her father in the early morning hours.  This Saturday or Sunday sounds like a good time to create some of those memories here in Maine.
