UMaine’s ‘Clean Sweep Sale’ Starts Today!

If you like a good yard/rummage sale, this is one that a lot of folks (at least the ones who know about it) look forward to every year.

And as with any good sale, you're going to want to make sure to be there towards the start!

If you're unfamiliar with this sale, let me catch you up to speed:

According to the University of Maine's Bodwell Center Facebook Page:

The University of Maine's "Clean Sweep Sale" is coming your way Friday, May 19 from 11 AM to 5 PM, and again Saturday, May 20 from 8 AM to 12 PM. It's going to take place at the Alfond Arena at the University of Maine in Orono again this year.

Basically, all the home furnishings that students leave behind, from furniture to decorations to appliances, are all gathered from the dorms and residence halls after they have moved out, brought to this one central location, and then sold for pretty cheap.

They'll also put older dorm furniture into the mix if the university plans an upgrade or something. And that stuff is wicked sturdy and built to last.

Personally, most of the furniture in my house (my bureaus, the cabinets in my kids' rooms, the file cabinets in my office, even my desk) was all purchased at this sale.

When I did a renovation of my daughters' bedroom they came in really handy.

With a little elbow grease, some vision, and often just a can or two of paint or finish, you could end up with some great little pieces for way below full price.

So head to the Alfond this weekend, but make sure you clear some space in your car or truck...and good luck on your quest for a bargain at the UMaine Clean Sweep!
