Get Ready. More Wildly Unsettled Weather In Store For This Week

A look at this week's forecast will make your head spin.

This week is one of those weeks where it's hard not to feel like our state lost a bet with God. It really does. If you took a look, you know what I'm talking about. It would seem we're going to experience half our seasons for the year, all in one week. It's a crazy follow-up to the weekend weather that dumped almost two feet of snow.

This week though, seems to be all about extremes. For instance, as I write this, it's -6 degrees outside. Tomorrow during the midday, temps will reach into the 40's and dump a bunch of rain on us. Same for Thursday. So we're going to have this big warmup, which eventually will start to freeze over again. Always a joy when that happens.

Then the fun begins all over again on the weekend.

As it looks right now, according to the National Weather Service, Thursday night will see a shift from rainy/snow mix, over to straight snow. Then during the day on Friday, we'll see more accumulating snow. Possibly to the tune of over another half a foot. Then, the temps nosedive again over the weekend, and we go back to super cold nights.

So basically, all in a seven day period, we may add another 5-8 inches on top of what we just got. Although, that includes a brief heatwave of sorts with lots of rain, melting snow, and likely tricky nighttime travel because of re-freezing. So out of the snow globe, into the frying pan, back to the snow globe, and then re-enter the deep freeze.

It's honestly enough to give you whiplash. And never mind the extended forecast, which hints at more snow on Monday. I really do love living in Maine, but this is enough to give me a small anxiety attack. I'll be glad when mud season rolls around. At least then things will be a bit more predictable. Well, hopefully.
