Update: Cause Disclosed For Why Thousands Without Power In Bangor Tuesday Evening
Update as of 8 AM Wednesday morning: A representative from Versant Power says last night’s Bangor outage was caused by a bird getting into a piece of substation equipment.
Over 3,000 Versant customers in Penobscot and Hancock counties were without power for a bit Tuesday night, according to their spokesperson. The majority of those affected were in the greater Bangor Area.

Power snapped off just after 8 PM Tuesday. Moments later, sirens could be heard, and emergency personnel were seen heading down Union Street towards the airport.
Along with homes, many street lights and traffic lights across the city went dark, just as the sun was setting.
The cause of the outage is still unknown. For a while, folks thought it might have something to do with an issue near the airport, but it was later determined that was not the case. When the power went out, the generators in that location kicked on, and there was a small amount of smoke from the startup of one of the units. The fire department responded to the scene, but it's said there was no actual fire.
Much of the city's power was restored by 9:15.
