I have never actually been spelunking but I confess I love the word. Click here and you can get up close and personal, spelunking into Maine's Ice Caves located just a few miles away from Baxter State Park without getting out of your chair, thought you'd like that.

This video is thanks to WeRmudfun. Not sure where these folks are from but by their accents we'd say Boston. The ice caves Chuck and Cheryl are exploring are near Millinocket. Along with the ice caves Chuck and Cheryl are a wealth of eco-knowledge and they really cover quite a lot of ground. The trail to the ice caves is just over 1 mile and is lined with tall pine trees and large glacial rocks covered in moss. The caves are a pile of heavy boulders that were naturally formed by glaciers during the last ice age. The Nature Conservancy has installed metal rings for assistance climbing down into the cave. When you start to get deep in the caves, the temperature drops rapidly. During the spring and summer, the ice coating the walls of the caves start to melts and form icicles. From the large main room. Those who have been in the ice caves suggest you bring warm clothing as it's like being in a freezer. Happy video spelunking.
