From Kittery to Fort Kent, Rumford to Eastport, this Saturday and Sunday it's the 7th Great Maine Outdoor Weekend!

We certainly have enough snow on the ground to enjoy anything that winter has to offer!  Activities like skiing, snowmobiling, hiking, ice skating, even snowman building are all on the menu for this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, February 13th - 15th. The Maine Outdoor Coalition coordinates the event!

“This is certainly a winter for the record books,” says planning team member Julie Mulkern, Executive Director of WinterKids, “and all of this beautiful snow is providing incredible conditions for winter activities of all kinds. Snowshoeing, skiing, ice skating, sledding, snowman building – there’s winter fun for the whole family during the Great Maine Outdoor Weekend!” WinterKids is co-sponsoring a Valentine’s Day Snowshoe Dance with L.L.Bean at the flagship store in Freeport – just one of the many unique events happening across the state!

The Maine Outdoor Coalition has a great page on their site where you can search for scheduled events in your area.   Hike three preserves on Deer Isle, snowshoe the Long Cove Headwaters in Searsport, check out "Tic Tac Snow" on MDI, which is a Winter Treasure Hunt for the youngsters! The listing is pretty much endless with events that just about any outdoor enthusiast would enjoy!

“We’re really excited about this one,” says Great Maine Outdoor Weekend coordinator Kaitlyn Bernard of the Appalachian Mountain Club, “it coincides with Valentine’s Day weekend, President’s Day Weekend, the first week of school vacation, Free Admission into National Parks Day, and Maine IF&W’s Free Family Fishing Days. There are so many reasons and ways to celebrate winter in Maine this weekend!”
