One of the most beautiful places in the State is Lake St. George State Park in Liberty, just off Route 3, the road between Belfast and Augusta, and it's a great area for an ice fishing derby for the kids!

The 10th Annual Youth Ice Fishing Derby, part of Winter Family Fun Day at Lake St. George State Park will take place on Saturday, January 26th, between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.  This is a perfect opportunity to for youngsters to learn how to fish, and as an added bonus, all equipment and bait is provided!

There will be a warming hut and lunch and hot cocoa that will be provided as well by both the Maine Department of Agriculture and Forestry and the Bureau of Parks and Lands!  Skis, snowshoes, ice skates and sleds will also be available.

Outside cooking demos will happen throughout the day, along with a Fat Bike Rodeo Demo held by the Maine Coast Conservancy, which sounds like a boatload of fun!

The Park is about 47 miles from Bangor and 55 miles from Ellsworth. The cost is $1.50 for those 12 to 64, and free to everyone else! Questions?  Call  207-589-4255.
