2021 Maine Lobster Festival Has Been Cancelled
We hate to be a buzzkill this morning, but we have some bummer news to report
After originally deciding to go forward and the hold the event this year, the 2021 Maine Lobster Festival is no more, This is a fresh reminder that we just are not out of the woods yet with the pandemic, which is about to begin month number 13. While some events in the state are planned to go on as scheduled, the Maine Lobster Festival posted the following statement last night on their Facebook page.
The Maine Lobster Festival board believes that the safety of our community, our volunteers and our guests is paramount. Because we hold a festival that serves food in tents to tens of thousands of guests, there are not safe ways for us to do this and comply with CDC guidelines. We have worked with our board, our city and the state guidelines, and despite looking at dozens of other options, we have regretfully concluded that we can not safely hold our event in 2021. Please watch this page for many more updates, exciting promotions of some of our own products, our vendors and artisans, and exciting planning for our 75th anniversary next year. We can't wait to host you all again, plan your trips to see us in 2022! #MaineLobsterFestival
The Maine Lobster Festival started way back in 1947, when a group of citizens and summer folk, had a discussion about how to have summer events in the Camden/Rockland area like they did prior to the years during the second world war. Ever since then, the festival has been held every year on the first weekend in August. Sadly, just like last year, it will not take place, but the 2022, 2023 dates are set, and hopefully by then, we will be able to enjoy this classic Maine summer tradition.
