Brewer JROTC Brings Back ‘Witches Walk Haunted Trails’ Fundraiser
For one weekend only, folks can experience fun, fright, and food at the Brewer Air Force JROTC's 'Witches Walk Haunted Trails' fundraiser.
They started this last year, and it went over so well that they decided to bring it back and make it a yearly event.

The Witches Walk takes place on the grounds of Brewer High School, says the program's Aerospace Science Instructor Christopher Labonte.
"The walk takes 5-8 minutes (sometimes longer) and if I had to guess, it’s about a 1/8 of a mile."
The event raises money for the Brewer Air Force JROTC program, which Labonte says involves about 65 kids, grades 9-12, each year.
"They help fund our survival weekends, robotics club, go-cart club, marksmanship team, week-long summer camp called JCLC, student activity nights, team building activities, etc."
Labonte says the walk is entirely student-led.
"They come up with the ideas, designs, and actions. It’s truly investing in our youth. Cadets lay out the 'scare stations' They love it.
Cadet Colonel Brooke Thomas, who is a Senior with the program and plans to attend EMCC next fall, says she has enjoyed taking part in the planning process this year.
"The reason why I like it is that it helps us grow as a core. It brings people closer together and makes new friends."
Thomas, who has been with the program for 4 years, say this year's even has a fun theme.
It's a haunted trail, so it's kind of like a haunted house. It's based on horror movies. There are 6 stations, and they each have a dedicated movie scene that they're going to do."
The Brewer AFJROTC program has been around since 2007. This is their second year doing the walk. Labonte says almost 50 students will be taking part in the event.
'Witches Walk Haunted Trails' will take place Friday and Saturday, October 25th and 26th.
There will be an hour at the beginning, from 5 PM to 6 PM, where it's pretty tame and might be better for those who don't like being freaked out. For those who enjoy a good jump scare, from 6 PM to 10 PM on Friday, and from 6 PM to 9:30 PM on Saturday they'll be upping the fright factor a bit.
There will also be refreshments available for sale, which will also benefit the group.
Admission is $5 for a one-time walk. Those who want to spend more time getting spooked can get a daily pass for $15.00. Anyone wanting to spend the weekend getting freaked out can buy a weekend pass for $20.00.
