390 Family Dollar Stores Are Proposed To Close This Year

This from a recent press release from Dollar Tree, Family Dollar's parent company.

In the release the company outlined several moves they intend to make with their properties in 2019.  No word yet as to where the "under performing" stores are located. Their intent in the release is to close 84 stores first and then up to as many as 390.

Maine has 60 Family Dollar stores currently. In addition to the Family Dollar proposed closings are several other company wide changes. Details given so far include:

• Plans to renovate at least 1,000 stores in 2019
• Renovated stores including a new $1.00 Dollar Tree merchandise section
• Approximately 200 Family Dollar stores will be re-bannered to Dollar Tree

Time will tell how our Maine stores will fare with these current proposals.
