Accidental Acceleration Causes Damage To Cars And Restaurant In Bangor
Folks eating breakfast at a Bangor restaurant Denny's Sunday morning had a jarring experience when a vehicle hit the side of the building they were eating in. Bangor police ended up at 120 Haskell Rd in Bangor to investigate.
According to Jason McAmbley, Public Information Officer for the Department, it wasn't just the building that sustained damage, but several surrounding vehicles.
"First responders were called at about 10:30 a.m., after a person attempting to park accidentally stepped on the gas instead of the brake and struck the building hard enough to knock the plates off a table inside.
The driver backed up, turned and stepped on the gas again, impacting four parked vehicles, one of which was occupied."
McAmbley said that several of the vehicles involved had to be towed from the scene, and the estimated damage for those was in the thousands.
"Several of the vehicles had to be towed from the scene due to damage, and the restaurant has structural damage to the front of the building. Denny’s did stay open for the day and there is no cost estimate of damage available at this time."
Thankfully, there were no injuries reported from Sunday's accident.
