For almost 45 years, the Brewer Eagles Club has been operating out of a building located at 22 Atlantic Avenue in Brewer.

Then, about a year ago, they had to vacate the building, according to a Trustee for the club, Jeff Stockwell.

"We had some financial issues, and they ended up selling the building."

Stockwell says the club ended up having a different vision for the space than the new owner of the building but after a year of it sitting empty, the group and the landlord came to an understanding, and the group returned to work on some much-needed renovations.

Instead of having the run of the entire building this time around, they're occupying just the first floor. But Stockwell says folks returning to the club will notice quite a few updates have been made.

"We've gone in and patched all of the tiles on the floor that were bad. We've spent a lot of time getting the floors spotless and waxed."

"We've had all of the pool tables redone. We've painted all the downstairs. Everything's been updated and modernized. We've got all new furniture."

They extended the stage by 3.5 feet to make more room for the bands, painted the backdrop behind the stage black, and replaced all of the barstools.

Stockwell said the space hadn't been updated in 30 to 40 years.

Until last week, he said the club had been holding meetings and fundraisers in different locations.

But last Friday, they were finally able to open the doors to Eagles Club Members once again on Atlantic Avenue.

"It went awesome. It was standing room only. The place was packed."

Stockwell estimates that there are currently about 350 members, but the club is growing.

"We're getting a lot of people interested. We've got a whole bunch of people who have put in applications to become members. We've already initiated some new people but we have a whole more to do."

Similar to Elks Clubs, the Eagles Club organization is a charitable social group, with yearly dues.

"We do a lot of stuff for charities and for kids. It's a membership; a social room. We have a lot of things going on; cornhole tournaments and raffles."

The 1.1mile-long Brewer Riverwalk gives a vantage point to all three bridges that cross between Brewer and Bangor and the Bangor Waterfront. There's plenty of park benches along the way to sit and take in the sights.
