A water leak in Downtown Bangor has led to a boil order for some areas of the City today.

According to the Bangor Water District, crews have been at the scene of a leak near 127 Cedar Street since early Thursday morning. Part of Cedar from 3rd to 4th Streets has been shutdown so officials with the district could investigate and try to make repairs, but as of the early afternoon, they estimate that residents in that area could have sputtering and cloudy water at first, when the lines are restored, and will need to boil it before using it, for a little bit.

"It may take a few days to remove all the air in the water main, and it may come and go. After we remove the air we can, we will take three water samples from different areas in the boil water notice zone. To process those samples, they are stored in an incubator for 18 hours in our lab before testing to ensure the water is safe to consume. Once the samples indicate the water is safe to consume, we will post, Boil Water Notice LIFTED on each door, and to Facebook."

Officials say they hope to have the water main repaired by Thursday evening. The affected residences include:

115, 119, 127, 130, 132, 149, 156, 168, 174, 175, 178, 182, 183, 188 Cedar Street,

25 Fifth Street, 224A, 226B Union Street, 292 Hammond Street, 17, 19, 23, 25, 30, 32, 35, 36, 39, 42, 44 and 45 Fourth Streets.
