Bangor, Maine’s City Hall Finally Has Walls: Check Out The Renovations!
It's been almost 2 years since construction crews started a multi-million dollar renovation project to Bangor's historic City Hall building on Harlow St.
Many of the City's departments, which had been operating at the old building, were moved temporarily to offices the City set up in the back of the Penquis building just down the street from the construction site.
The goal has been to update the HVAC system in the old building, and install an elevator, as well as reconfigure the blueprint of where the different City departments are located so it makes for a more user-friendly experience when people visit.
The steel beams and elevator shaft went in this past January, and this month, it was revealed that the walls are finally up, and there's an end in site to this massive overhaul.

City Officials revealed some of the newest developments on the City's website and the Bangor City Hall-City Of Bangor, Maine City Hall Facebook Page.
"The renovation of City Hall is entering its final phase as work crews turn their attention to additional electrical wiring, ceiling work, painting and other "final punch list" items, according to Director of Engineering Jefferson Davis.
The accompanying photo shows what will be the Treasury counter on the first floor of City Hall. The entrance to Council Chambers can be seen at the other end of the lobby. Council Chambers were previously on the third floor of City Hall. To the right of the Treasury counter is a newly installed elevator, and also on the first floor will be the counter for the City Clerk's Office."
Warren says floors and ceilings still have to be installed and crews will still need to waterproof the outside of the building, but barring any unforeseen issues, the building is still on track to open later this year.

The price tag for all of the renovations come in just under $9 million dollars. The project was approved by the Bangor City Council in September of 2023, with demolition starting soon after that.
