Bangor Cobbler Remains Closed After November Fire
The Downtown Bangor business, The Yankee Cobbler, was forced to close after an early morning fire damaged the State Street storefront last Thanksgiving.
Owner Jonathan Lambert recently took to The Yankee Cobbler Facebook Page to update customers on the progress of trying to reopen the store. Lambert said that while there thankfully wasn't a lot of fire damage, there was a bit of smoke and water damage to his machinery and inventory, all of which will need to be repaired before he can decide what the next steps to take. He also mentioned that while the insurance company they are working with has deemed the business as a total loss, not everything was ruined.
After several inquiries from customers who had dropped footwear off to Lambert for repair before the fire, he explained why there's been a bit of a hold-up with regards to returning these items:
"Per the Insurance Company: All client products, materials, machinery and all Business assets must stay on premise until the Insurance claim has been approved. All client products are safe and secure! Unfortunately, Our hands are tied until the claim is approved."
Lambert has owned the Yankee Cobbler for the better part of 15 years, and a lot of the equipment he uses is quite old. According to an interview he did for the feature "Once Upon A Job", some of it is even from the 19th Century. Not something you can necessarily hop onto Amazon.com and buy a replacement part for. And
Fingers crossed he'll be able to get the shop up and operational in the future.
