Bangor High Debate Team Represents In Chicago At National Tournament
Five Bangor High School students spent the Memorial Day holiday in Chicago representing the school at the National Catholic Forensic League Grand National Tournament.
Senior Joshep Bohm, who had competed at the National level before, joined Junior Tobias Kennedy, Sophomores Brayden Sloan and Beatrix Foster, and Freshmen Tobias Kennedy and Sarah Wallace to compete against 2,000 plus students from over 400 schools in the nation.
Stephanie Hendrix, BHS Speech Coach, who accompanied the competitors to Illinois, said that each team member spent time researching and rehearsing in preparation for the event.
"These Bangor High School students competed in four of the ten different events offered at the tournament: including oratorical declamation, dramatic performance, extemporaneous speaking, and Lincoln-Douglas debate."
"I'm so incredibly proud of all of them," Hendrix said. "Each of our debaters won rounds, and many of our speech competitors placed well, too. It's always amazing to work with these students, to see them evolve into more confident and more well-spoken individuals. I'm so proud of all of them!"
Hendrix said while team members had participated in regional and state matches before, the competition in Chicago was much more of an advanced experience.
