Bangor’s Superintendent Announces Retirement This Spring
After 42 years working in education, Bangor's Superintendent James Tager announced he would be retiring at the end of this school year.
Tager has spent 3 years as Bangor's Superintendent, taking over for Dr. Betsy Webb when she stepped down from the role.
In a letter addressed to the parents and staff of the Bangor School Department, Tager expressed his gratitude to the educators, administrators, parents, and students he's gotten to know and work with over the past few years, and mentioned just some of the improvements that have been made since he accepted the position of Superintendent.
"During my tenure, graduation rates rose from 82.44% to 89.93%. Forty percent of our students access accelerated programming, and our Advanced Placement courses consistently outperform state and national scores. Additionally, students earned the Seal of Biliteracy demonstrating knowledge in Chinese, French, Spanish, and American Sign Language."
Tager went on to say that they have also added more partent activities and opportunities for higher learning and local businesses to be involved in mentoring projects for the students in the school system, with over a thousand Bangor students utilizing mentoring services.
Tager says his last day on the job will be June 30th, 2024. No word yet on who will replace him.
