Congrats to the Season 5 champs, the Brewer Witches!

If you grew up in the Bangor/Brewer area, there is a long-standing rivalry between the two high schools, particularly in football, and basketball, but it doesn’t end there.

The two local powerhouses faced off in the season finale of High School Quiz Show: Maine, for a $1,000 prize for their school's Project Graduation, in a single-elimination, academic bracket competition, with the runner-up being awarded a $500 gift. The winner of the Maine tournament will participate in a regional tournament facing the Quiz Show champions from New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island.

Last week, in the championship match, the Bangor team featured students, Simon, Roland, Riordan, and Fallon. The Brewer squad was led by Lindsey, Swaroop, Cooper, and Ryan.

It was a close matchup, but in the end, Brewer pulls out the win and the crown, with a 285-240 victory! A big $1,00 check was presented to the Witches for Brewer Project Graduation. Bangor grabbed $500 for their second-place finish.

After a break in 2021 due to COVID concerns, the 5th season of High School Quiz Show: Maine, premiered on Maine Public Television in the spring of this year.

One big change this season was the new host! Weather dude, Todd Gutner, from WLBZ 2 News Center Maine, now has the gig, after our friend Shannon Moss, moved on to other things outside of media.

Production funding for High School Quiz Show: Maine is provided by the good people of Safety Insurance, Unitil, and the Maine Education Association.
