Multiple Afternoon Accidents Monday On Interstate Neary Broadway In Bangor
A new week brought with it new reports of multiple accidents along an area of the interstate in Bangor that's become particularly problematic lately.
Specifically, the stretch surrounding the Broadway exit, both northbound and southbound lanes, has seemed to be the scene of many accidents over the last few months, since construction on the bridge and the new on and off ramps started.
The Maine State Police reported that several vehicles were involved in crashes on the interstate on Monday, just before rush hour.
"Multiple accidents on I-95 going northbound in Bangor (mile marker 185) are causing significant backups. Expect delays when traveling through this area for the time being."
There were reports of traffic being backed up to the Hammond Street exit for a time.
Maine State Police say that the main problem with Monday's crashes had to do with getting the cars that had been involved in the accidents off the roadway.
"The biggest issue was just the traffic due to lanes being blocked by disabled vehicles."
Thankfully, only minor injuries were reported.

Some motorists say the abrupt decrease in speed along the interstate from 60 mph to 50 mph through the work zone has contributed to complications experienced in this spot. Others say the lines on the road are hard to see. Others blame distracted drivers who don't merge or yield correctly while getting on the interstate.
It's gotten to the point where many drivers will avoid the interstate in that area altogether for fear of being involved in a crash.
