Bangor Police Arrest Man Who Threatened Them with Karambit Knife

Bangor Police took a man into custody after he threatened several officers with a fighting-style knife.

Sergeant Wade Betters says officers were called to the Circle K store, 633 Hogan Road at around 6:30 Thursday morning, after a staff member reported a man who was harassing customers in their parking lot. They asked that the man, who was later identified as 38-year-old Arthur Beaver, be removed from their property.

When the officers arrived, they tried to start a conversation with Beaver and persuade him to leave peacefully. However, Beaver was allegedly intoxicated and chose not to cooperate with police, becoming increasing agitated. At one point, police blocked the store's entrance after Beaver allegedly told them he was going to enter the store. They continued to try and reason with the man, but he only got angrier, allegedly threatening to kill the officers.

A few moments later, police say Beaver took a bladed stance and produced a Karambit knife, which is a dangerous fighting knife with a curved blade. One of the officers maneuvered behind the man and grabbed hold of the man's wrist. Police told Beaver to drop the knife, but he allegedly refused to comply. One of the officers then pulled his service revolver on Beaver, while another officer pushed him away from the store. A tense scene ensued until backup officers arrived, prompting Beaver to drop the knife and surrender to police.

Arthur Beaver was taken to the Penobscot County Jail, where his bail was set at $310.00 cash. He's charged with felony criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, criminal trespass, violation of conditions of release, and disorderly conduct.
