Hey, no dough-boy for you!

Another one of Maine's most popular events bites the dust because of the nasty COVID-19 virus. Officials with the Bangor State Fair canceled the Bass Park event, which was set to occur from July 30 to August 8.

"Safety is always of the utmost priority to us and under these unprecedented conditions we didn’t feel it would be possible at this time to be able to provide the level of guest experience at the Bangor State Fair that everyone has come to expect," said Cross Insurance Center general manager Tony Vail.

Bummer, and we were looking forward to patting a cow on the head right before tearing into a big old sausage sandwich loaded with peppers and onions.

This year's fair was all set to have special theme days, a demolition derby, truck pulls, nightly live music, and some new unique rides.

Now what are the kids going to do? Read?

"Our team is already looking forward to next year’s fair, which is tentatively scheduled from July 29 to August 7, 2021", Vail said in the press release.

Guess we'll have to cook our kettle korn and french fries at home this year.

The Bangor State Fair, held yearly on the Bass Park fairgrounds is one of the oldest running fairs in the country, and we're sorry that it will not be taking place this year.  Other fairs across the state have begun to cancel as well, including fairs in Litchfield, Houlton, Harmony, Acton and the Northern Maine Fair.

Still no word on the Blue Hill Fair, which normally takes place over Labor Day Weekend.
