If you've driven past the William S. Cohen School lately, you've probably seen the work they've been doing to the old Cameron Stadium.

According to News Center Maine, the renovation project , which was part of an overall $5-Million dollar plan to do upgrades to the stadium. It got a boost when voters approved a referendum in 2020, to use $2.7 million in taxpayer dollars to renovate the field.

"The additional $2.7 million will be used for the track and field -- replacing the grass field with turf to host lacrosse, soccer, football, and field hockey; and turning the six lane track into an eight lane one. "

Constructionjournal.com had most of the details of the proposed project:

"Construct a new eight lane competition track with multi-sport synthetic turn infield complete with underdrain system. Work included the demolition, excavation, and removal of the existing track and field; field events for pole vault, shot put, discus, high jump and triple jump; site work, grading, pavement, loam and seeding, storm piping, and sewer piping; new access drives; walkways; fencing; retaining wall; site electrical, including relocation of existing transformer, addition of new transformer, and site lighting; site data/communications, miscellaneous foundations and ground sleeves for scoreboards, goal posts, and safety netting; a new concessional building; and new ticket booth."

Also planned was an upgrade of the existing lighting system to an LED one.

Crews have been hard at work on the project since this spring.

This week, City Officials shared a post on their City of Bangor, Maine, City Hall Facebook page, showing off the upgrades, and they look pretty impressive.

"Here is today's look at the Cameron Stadium upgrades that are currently underway. The new artificial turf field and an eight-lane track will allow for a new level of play for Bangor's athletes."

The video, shared originally on the Bangor Rams Twitter Page, shows the progress they've made.
