Coming Up, Free Admission To State Parks On Maine Resident’s Day
Mark your calendars!
Well, here you go, what a great way to celebrate Father's day and the forthcoming first full week of summer. Sunday, June 20th, is Maine Resident's Day, and that means free admission to our beautiful Maine State Parks and certain Historic sites!
For that day, any vehicle with Maine registration plates on it and it's occupants will be admitted free to places like Lamoine State Park, Camden Hills State Park, Popham Beach State Park, Swan Lake State Park, Fort Knox in Prospect, and many others.
Residents of Maine will receive free use of the park from 9 a.m. until closing that day. Normally, an admission is collected at the gates and fees vary anywhere between $3 and $7, depending on the park.
To find a state park in your area of somewhere else within Maine use the online Park Finder, or download a PDF of the Outdoors in Maine Guide.
Of course free admission that day does not apply to Acadia National Park, which is run by the Federal Government. The following are other Parks and Historic sites within Maine that Maine Resident's Day does not apply to: the Allagash Wilderness Waterway, Baxter State Park, Peacock Beach, the Maine Wildlife Park, Scarborough Beach State Park, Swan Island, the Penobscot River Corridor, or the Penobscot Narrows Observatory in Prospect, though admission to Fort Knox Historic Site will be free that day.
So pack up dad's favorite Father's Day meal, whether it be a steak on the grill or one of Maine's fabulous lobster rolls, and find yourself a picnic bench at one of Maine's great State Parks or Historic sites!
