DeWalt Issues Recall On 122,000 Drills That May Be Zapping People
DeWalt has recalled over 120,000 drills recently, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Comission. They pose a potential risk of electric shock. And since just about everything you do with a drill requires electricity and metal to metal contact, dragging out your drill and checking the numbers on it, is probably the best idea you'll have today.
Here's the codes to look for on your drill to see if you have a faulty one:
Two different drills are affected by the recall: the DeWalt DWD110 and the DWD112 3/8-inch VSR drills. They look almost identical, so you should definitely check the label to check the specific model, and it's only these two that are affected. If you check these codes and there is an 'X' at the end, it means it's already been re-inspected, and it's good to go.
If you own one of these recalled drills, stop using it right away and call their customer service department at 1-855-752-5259 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday. Or, you can also email them at recall@sbdinc.com for information about a free inspection and repair.
Interesting side note: DeWalt reported this problem back in January, but naturally, due to the government shutdown, the information did not make it to the public, according to a post from News Center Maine. Go figure.
