A 17 minute long song that sent everyone trippin' entered the charts on this date in 1968!

"In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida' by Iron Butterfly took up the entire second side of the album by the "same name.  You could get a lot done during the length of the song.  Think about changing the oil in the VW van, bead your girlfriend's hair, hang up on a couple of bill collectors, or change the bong water.  Yes, it was a very convenient recording.

It was on this date in 1968 that British actress Jane Asher announced on a live national television show that her engagement to Paul McCartney was off.  Paul was sitting home watching, and he had no idea that she had changed her mind.  Women.

"Born To Run" by Bruce Springsteen was just taking off, and so was the E Street Band's new tour at The Palace Theatre, Providence, Rhode Island.  It was also the debut of Little Steven Van Zandt as a member of the band, which he is still with today!

Carlos Santana was born on this date in 1947.  The Latin guitarist shot to fame after a scorching version of "Soul Sacrifice" at Woodstock, which years later he freely admitted to eating acid before the legendary performance.  Santana is now 68, and continues to tour, he plays in Verona, Italy, tonight!
