A group that is collecting donated funds to buy a bullet proof vest for a police dog in Portland has now added Somerset County Sheriff’s K-9 Kojo to it's list.

Maine K9 Vests, a group headed by Wayne Robichaud of Oxford, has come up with funds that have outfitted seven Maine police dogs with bullet proof vests over the past ten years, has contacted officials from the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office about their mission, according to NewsCenterMaine.com.

Each bullet proof vest costs about $900.  K-9 Kojo's partner is Detective David Cole, the son of slain deputy Eugene Cole.  Kojo is a Belgian Malinois, just like Nero, the Yarmouth, Massachusetts, police dog that was recently wounded.

Maine K9 Vests currently has donation jars at stores in western Maine.  They can be reached via email at mainek9vests@gmail.com.
