Cheat Sheet: Here’s When Outdoor Pools Open In Eastern Maine
The official start of summer is Friday June 20th, and with most schools releasing for their summer break, there's one major question on the mind of Maine kids, across the state: when do the pools open?
Here's the scoop on when you'll actually be able to take a cool, refreshing dip in the water (outside of going to the lake, beach, or indoor pool).
The Bangor Parks & Recreation Department hopes to have both the outdoor pool, The Beth Pancoe Pool, located at Hayford Park, 775 13th St, and Dakin Park, at 336 Pine St, open by the last weekend in June. They already have sign-ups advertised on their Facebook Page for aquatics programs. And they are hiring and certifying lifeguards to staff both locations.
However, the Bangor Housing Splash Pad opened for the season on Wednesday, June 4th. Located off Davis Road, the splash pad is a great spot to cool down until the pools open, with a nearby playground, covered picnic tables, and a basketball court on-site.
In Brewer, the pool will open on June 20th, as well. They have just added a new coat of paint to the pool at State and Wilson Street in Brewer. You can find out more at the Brewer Parks and Rec Facebook. You can register for swim lessons through the Parks and Rec website, here.
The Nickerson Pool in Orono is on track to open Friday, June 20th, according to the town of Orono's Parks and Rec Department. This pool recently received a major overhaul. A new liner and new gutters were installed over the last 2 years, and with all the work now done, and all of the kinks in the process having been ironed out, folks in Orono can look forward to kicking off the summer season with a proper splash. The Nickerson Pool will be open 7 days a week, throughout the summer, from noon to 7 PM.
