An infant from Eddington was taken to a local hospital over the weekend to be treated after being revived from an unresponsive state with two doses of Narcan.

According to the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office, dispatchers received a 911 call just before 2:30 Sunday afternoon. The callers stated the young child was having a cardiac issue. Luckily, a Supervisor with the Sheriff's Department was only a moment away and rushed to the scene on Clewleyville Road in Eddington to help.

He discovered the infant in the driveway, unresponsive and not breathing. The parents were with the baby.

With help from the parents, the supervisor initiated CPR and checked the child's airway for any obstructions, but the infant did not respond to the life-saving efforts.

At that point, more information came out that the baby may have been exposed to an unknown substance and had possibly overdosed on it, so the Sheriff Supervisor immediately changed course.

"He administered two doses of Narcan (naloxone), an opioid reversal medication, while continuing lifesaving CPR efforts. Immediately following the second dose of Narcan, the infant began showing signs of life and was ultimately successfully revived...The infant was transported to a local hospital for further treatment, and the presence of an opioid was detected."

Crews from Eddington and Holden Fire & Rescue, along with Northern Light Ambulance Service, assisted with the baby's care and transport to the hospital upon arrival.
