Traffic along Route 9/Main Road in Eddington was down to one lane for motorists for a long while, following a crash near the Dollar General on Thursday afternoon.

According to the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office, the accident took place just before 6 PM.

"The incident involved a tractor-trailer truck and resulted in no reported injuries to the driver or any other individuals."

Authorities went on to say that the roadway had been reduced to one lane and would likely remain that way for quite a while as crews worked to clean up the scene and recover the large truck.

Motorists were advised to seek alternative routes, if possible, and to use extreme caution when driving through the area, as both emergency personnel and equipment would be on scene throughout the evening as they worked to clear the area.

According to the Maine Department of Transportation, the stretch of Route 9 that runs through Eddington is a place of particular peril to drivers, with 55 crashes being reported in just over a year, along that same road.
