Help ‘Fill The Forester’ And Help Local Animals In Need Of Food & Homes
This week, animal lovers in Maine will get the chance to change the lives of local pets by helping provide much-needed food, supplies, and even homes...all by simply helping to fill up a vehicle.
But not with gas.
The folks from the Bangor Humane Society and Quirk Subaru have teamed up instead with the hopes of filling a Forester SUV with items that will help animals waiting to be adopted.
The event called "Fill The Forester" kicked off at 2 locations this Monday; the Subaru dealership at 295 Hogan Road and the Bangor Area Humane Society shelter at 693 Mt. Hope Avenue. There's a Forester at each location, waiting to be filled with donations.
Bangor Humane Society's Director of Development, Kathryn Ravenscraft says "Donors are encouraged to bring supplies such as new or used towels, blankets, linens, pet food, toys, treats, and cleaning products to either location for use at the shelter."
"Capping off the week’s festivities will be an in-person celebration at the shelter on Friday, October 25th. The Quirk Subaru team will be onsite that day to help shelter staff collect donations, hand out goody bags aimed at dog owners, and create free engraved pet ID tags for those visiting the shelter to adopt or donate supplies."
Along with taking in donations for the week, Ravenscraft says the Bangor Humane Society will take off half of the normal adoption fee for anyone looking to adopt an animal.
“We are most in need of adopters right now, which means the timing for this event couldn’t be better...Quirk Subaru has prioritized animal welfare in our community for a long time. Their generous and loyal partnership supports the care of hundreds of animals while they wait for their forever home.".
If you do plan to adopt a pet on-site, Ravenscraft says the 50% discount only applies to pets meeting the ASPCA criteria. You will also need to bring a photo ID, and everyone who lives in the household. If you have other dogs at home, they also require those animals to do a dog-to-dog visit before the animal can go home with you, to make sure he or she is a good fit for everyone in your family, even the other pets.
