Flick Chick here once again in the pursuit of truth, justice and keeping you from spending your hard earned money on movies that don’t make the grade! Over the weekend I put on my best poker face and headed to the Bangor Mall Cinemas to see ‘Focus’.This movie runs a little shy of 2 hours and is a comedy, crime, drama. The film is rated R for language, some sexual content and brief violence. The film stars Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Rodrigo Santoro, Gerald McRaney

Summary:

Nicky (Will Smith) is a 3rd generation con man who decides to take newbie Jess (Margot Robbie) under his wing and then after seemingly falling in love with her leaves her flat. Years later he is pulling a big con and who should show up on the scene but Jess.  Question is will she be an ally or take revenge by throwing a wrench into the works.

Review:

Focus is pretty much you typical con man film with lots of twists and drawn out explanations about how they pulled it all off. The only trouble I had was that some of the explanations were a little farfetched leaving me thinking o.k. not great.  I was also surprised to see they class it as a comedy, not that it didn’t have some light moments but this was no comedy in my book. For the acting, I am a fan of Will Smith and I thought that Margot Robbie did good job.  So on a scale of 1-10, I’m giving ‘Focus’ a 7.
