It was one of those situations where I came across something online, decided to check it out in person, and was delighted with what I found.

As I was cruising around Facebook this week, I came across a post about a live concert happening at Chapin Park in Bangor.

I loaded the kids in the van, grabbed some grub, and headed over to the park.

When we got there, there was a small crowd of folks with lawn chairs and blankets, relaxing on the lawn as "Panstorm" a local steel drum band performed some great tunes.

They played some traditional sounding steel drum music but also some more familiar pop songs, as well.

The crowd was small but very delighted.

After the performance, we were even able to go get an up-close look at the instruments. The band members were extremely gracious and very informative.

They said they had started their Thursday night concert series last year at Cascade Park, but competition with the sound of the fountain and traffic made things a little tricky. So they decided to move to Chapin Park this year.

The concerts start at 6:30 PM and go till 8 PM. By the time the band was done playing their inaugural show, they had drawn a crowd of folks both young and old from the surrounding neighborhoods, and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves.

According to the Hermon Pans Facebook Page, these concerts will run from this summer to the end of August.

We'll definitely be heading back to see them again, but this time we'll plan a bit better and bring our chairs, blankets, and bug spray.
