Wet a line this weekend. It's a free fishing weekend in Maine.

The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife set this weekend, June 5 and 6, as Free Family Fishing Days. On these designated days anyone can fish in Maine waters without a license. These days are listed on page 52 in the 2021 Maine fishing law book.

The event gives Mainers an opportunity to try the sport without having to purchase a fishing license. If your fishing license has been suspended or revoked, no fishing for you.

All other laws and regulations must be followed. Those regulations and bag limits can vary depending on the body of water you choose to fish. It's recommended that you read through the 2021 Maine Open Water and Ice Fishing Law Book.

IFW has excellent resources on their website for those who are new to fishing in Maine. Everything from fishing and stocking reports, to fishing and boating laws can be found, here.
