Goo Goo Dolls and Fitz And The Tantrums Close Out Maine Savings Amphitheater Season

Waterfront Concerts and the Maine Savings Amphitheater closed out a season full of music with a fun concert on Friday night.

This has been the second full season the facility has been open, with many improvements made over the winter.

The mood inside the theater was celebratory, as the staff, who have done a great job working these events all summer, were at ease and happy to be nearing the completion of a successful run of shows.

Starting the evening off was L.A., neo-soul band Fitz and the Tantrums. Bringing energy and lots of personality to the stage...

...frontman Michael Fitzpatrick and co-lead vocalist  Noelle Scaggs got folks out of their seats and clapping along to fun and funky songs like "Living For The Weekend", "Money Maker", "The Walker" and arguably their best-known hit, "Handclap".

Fitzpatrick explained to the crowd at one point that he has connections to Bangor, being that his brother was born here, and his parents both lived here for a while.

After a short break, the Goo Goo Dolls took to the stage, celebrating their "The Big Night" tour and opened with "Broadway."

With the familiarity of a band that's been doing this for decades (they formed in Buffalo back in the 1980s, so they've had decades to learn each other's ebbs and flows)...

...the band worked their way through their catalog of greatest hits from "Slide" and "Black Balloon" to "Name" and "Better Days" before finishing with the crowd favorite "Iris".

It's been amazing to have such a facility right in our backyard and to see so many fun acts come this far North this year.

Many of the artists who played the MSA this season commented on how happy they were to have another venue option here in Maine.

Overall, it was a great summer season, and we look forward to what's to come in 2024.
