Every week we will feature a new hometown and share photos and facts using hashtags on social media. This week our #hashtag hometown is Ellsworth!

Because the town of Ellsworth was first incorporated February 26th, 1800 we will celebrate by making it our town of the week! Today Ellsworth is home to over 7,000 people and was determined to be Maine's fastest growing city 2000-2010. In the 1850's the town was booming with industry of all types, many of these buildings are still visible today.

Ellsworth is a tough town as it has survived a few natural disasters including a great flood in 1923 in which water over flowed the Union River washing away the bridge and many structures along the river. Then in 1933 the Great Fire destroyed much of the downtown Ellsworth shopping district. Today the town is the largest shopping district in the county.

Some of the popular attractions to Ellsworth are The Grand theater, The Downeast Scenic Railroad, The Big Chicken Barn Antique Store, Knowlton Park, Reny's, Birdsacre, and the Telephone Museum! Locals recommend eating at places like Finn's, Airline Brewing Company, Helen's, Jordan's Snack Bar, Sylvia's Cafe, Pat's Pizza, Blueberry Hill Ice Cream, Finelli Pizzaria, or Fudruckers, to name a few!
