There Was An Awful Lot Of Horse Power At One Corinth Drive Thru
Imagine this: You're out for a lovely weekend drive on a sunny day. You end up in Corinth and you suddenly have a hankering for an iced coffee. So you turn into the local Dunkin drive-thru to find there are about half a dozen folks in line in front of you...on horseback!
That was the scene this past weekend, when members of the local horseback riding club, the "Tipsy Drifters" decided to make a pit stop for some snacks and beverages.
Anghy Snow, who's worked at the Dunkin for just under a year now says she had heard about the riders coming through the drive-thru before but had never experienced serving them herself.
"I was just shocked they could set off the drive-thru but I guess horses are quite heavy...The horses were kinda nervous I almost brought their order outside to hand to them but I didn’t want to make them more skittish."
Snow said it was a nice surprise to have them come through, but seeing folks on horseback in Corinth is not an unusual sight.
"I live in Corinth Maine so horses being around is totally not uncommon as we have Amish who go through town all day!! The Amish don’t go through at all, but they go to the store next door, Whitney’s."
Local rider, Kathleen King, was one of the people that went through the Dunkin drive-thru that day...
"This particular group of horses is from a local ranch named DK Drifter Ranch we were trying out these horses before summer camp started. We had some young pre-teen girls, a mom, and some grandmothers on this 1st ride. We ride all around our local town of Corinth Maine. The young ones wanted a DD drink and food so we went to our local DD. "
If you're wondering how someone drinks or eats a snack from Dunkin on horseback, King says it's pretty easy...
"We use horn bags or just multi-task and eat and ride at the same time."
The "Tipsy Drifters" started up years ago at the DK Drifter Ranch. And one of the folks very familiar with riding around Corinth on horseback is farm owner, Kayla Hodgdon.
"My family has been here 75 years. I'm a 3rd generation farm owner in Corinth... Most people recall Sargent's Riding Stable, was my grandmother. Where they could come to ride horses through the covered bridge of Kenduskeag."
"I graduated from Central High School. And so did both of my parents. Both sides of my family grew up here. Our trail riders have ridden 20 miles in a day. We are seen all over Corinth, Bradford, Garland, Kenduskeag, and surrounding towns."
"We have a small girls' group called the "Tipsy Drifters"...We have been riding through Corinth for probably 10 years...We have been going through Dunkin' since it was built. Before that, I was seen riding here as a kid usually bareback and barefoot."
"We bought our house 2 years ago and started our kids program last year. Kids and horses have always been a dream of mine and my husbands. I named it DK drifter after Kayla and Darrick Hodgdon... and drifter because we have moved and traveled a lot."
"We would love support from the community and more word of mouth to get our program off the group. We specialize in confidence and relationship building. Outside of our farm, I'm a full-time RN. We do horse camps for kids and adult rides...we ride in all seasons."I'd love to do more with the camps and adult rides."
"Most are rescue or auction-bought horses trained by the kids. Standardbreds off the race track, paints, quarterhorses...
"I'd love to expand and purchase more land someday to keep recreational activities like horseback riding and walking trails in our community. I'd love to do more with the camps and adult rides."
"We have an open house on June 1st and 2nd. Petting zoo, pony rides, yard sale."
