It's a trend that's becoming more popular these days, and Old Town is following suit by adding some artistic touches to the town's landscape. Much like Bangor has done, Old Town will now have a bit of a brighter look in some areas, thanks to a Maine artist from the southern part of the state.

If you see someone spray-painting graffiti in some spots around town next week, it's likely not vandalism, but with a purpose.

EJ Roach, Director of Economic & Community Development for Old Town said that the art installation would start next week.

"The City of Old Town and Downtown Old Town today announced Maine graffiti artist, Mike Rich, of South Portland, Maine will create art on two traffic light control boxes located in Peace Pole Park, just south of Center Street, between Water Street and Main Street. Mr. Rich will begin his work on Monday July 18, 2022, around 11:30am."

This particular installation is being funded by a shared grant from the Maine Development Foundation. Local restaurant owner, Alex Gray added a matching contribution.

There have been other art installations in Old Town recently, at two different parks. One at the Peace Pole Park, done as a collaborative effort by the Penobscot Nation, the Old Town Museum, the local middle school, and Abigal Gray Swartz, a local artist.
