Did Two Downeast Men Really Find a Space Rock? [RESULTS]
Earlier this week, we told you about a Kelly Hinkle (The Downeast Cowboy) and his friend James Hubisz, who went looking for a piece of the meteorite that NASA reported fell to Earth somewhere near the town of Waite.
They, along with several others, searched for the area for quite some time before stumbling upon a rock that looked a little different.
The men then took the rock to Bethel, to the Maine Mineral and Gem Museum, where they left it to be tested by those in the know, to find out if what they had found had outer space origins!
On the line, a potential payout of $25,000, as the museum offered coughed up the pretty penny if the rock turned out to be the real deal.
Hinkle says the rock apparently went through some rigorous testing, and...
"These are the results. They actually had a big amount of people come to test this and they tested it for quite a while."
Well, after a few days of waiting, Hinkle finally got the results...
"Not a meteorite."
"It's a make-up of few different things, I'm going next week to get it back and to get a more plain and simple answer."
While the rock may not have come from space, it still created a buzz. And while $25K would have been nice, we're guessing the story that came from this adventure will last longer than the cash.
So, I guess the space rock is still out there. Happy hunting.
